Why study in Australia?

  • Globally recognised qualifications with strong employer demand in care, childcare and construction.
  • Post-study work rights that allow you to gain local experience and build a longer-term plan.
  • Safe, multicultural cities with clear workplace protections and support for international students.
  • Opportunities to work part-time (within visa limits) while studying to offset basic living costs.

Why choose VET pathways?

  • Coursework is practical, competency-based and linked to real job roles.
  • Flexible intakes plus the option to stack certificates, diplomas and advanced diplomas over time.
  • Industry requirements are embedded - from workplace hours to compliance training.
  • Clear pathways towards higher education or skilled employment without needing a full university degree upfront.

Programs & pathways

Certificates II-IV

Ideal if you are starting out or changing industries. Build core skills in areas like individual support, early childhood and civil construction.

Diplomas & Advanced Diplomas

Step into supervisor, coordinator or design-focused responsibilities once you have the foundation skills.

Progression pathways

Combine VET programs to reach bachelor-level study or to specialise further. Fireflies partners with ACVET College for hands-on programs that keep these doors open.

Fireflies works closely with ACVET College and other vetted institutes to match you with suitable intakes and delivery locations.

Entry requirements

  • SSC/HSC or bachelor transcripts plus a consistent academic history.
  • English proficiency that meets the provider's level (often IELTS 5.5-6.0 or equivalent).
  • Evidence of financial capacity and sponsor information that matches tuition and living costs.
  • Clear explanation of career goals, study progression and any work history gaps.

Fees & funding overview

Tuition fees range widely by program and city. Community services and childcare diplomas often start around AUD$9,000-12,000 per year, while civil construction and management courses can be higher. Living costs include accommodation, transport, insurance and daily expenses - plan for at least the amount set by immigration plus an emergency buffer.

Good news: You will not have to pay the full course fee in advance. Initial payment is approximately AUD$2,000-3,000 depending on the course.

Scholarships are limited for VET pathways, so we emphasise realistic budgeting, sponsor readiness and staged payments with your provider. Specific quotes are provided during consultation once we understand your intake timing and course length.

Life in Australia

Expect a mix of classroom learning, workplace training and part-time shifts. Students often work in hospitality, care or retail roles to support living costs. Balancing study timetables, shifts and wellbeing is crucial, and you must adhere to visa work limits at all times.

Fireflies provides local insights on cities such as Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane - from public transport to community networks - so you land prepared.

FAQ - Study in Australia

What makes VET different from university study?

VET courses are competency-based and tightly connected to specific roles such as aged care worker, childcare educator or site supervisor. They are faster to complete and emphasise employability.

How much should I budget for tuition and living expenses?

Tuition varies by provider and program, while annual living costs set by the Department of Home Affairs exceed AUD$24,000. Fireflies walks you through realistic budgets for your case.

Can I work during my studies?

Yes, international students can generally work up to 48 hours per fortnight during study periods and full-time during breaks. Compliance with visa conditions is essential.

Do you guarantee visas or jobs?

No. We provide guidance, documentation support and referrals, but visa decisions and employment outcomes depend on government policy, provider rules and your individual profile.
